My lamb has been coughing a lot lately. Could you tell me what could be causing him to cough?
Coughing may be associated with allergies to dust and pollens, or to infectious diseases of bacterial, viral or parasitic origin. Pasturella species are a common bacterial cause of coughing in lambs. Other infectious processes that produce coughing include pneumonia, lungworms (parasites that require a fecal flotation test to diagnose), and Mycoplasma.
Since the specific cause for coughing could be any of these, or other possibilities, you need to have your veterinarian examine your lamb as soon as possible. This is especially important to do if your lamb is sick and has stopped eating.
